OTR WHEEL INSPECTION & CRACK TESTING
Enhance site safety with our professional
Non-Destructive Testing services for OTR wheels.
WHAT IS CRACK TESTING?
OTR wheels stand up to enormous use and abuse. Despite their integral role in safe, reliable equipment operation, wheels are often overlooked from a safety perspective.
As the hours wear on, OTR wheels can develop fractures in sensitive areas such as welds, ring grooves and bolt holes. Left unchecked, the severity of these cracks increases, leading to a wheel failure that severely endangers lives and equipment.
GMI Wheels’ crack testing program improves safety by helping prevent these incidents, saving lives and downtime.
Using a non-destructive testing (NDT) process, certified GMI Wheels technicians identify cracks, fractures, imperfections and wear on OTR wheels. Every wheel is given a PASS/FAIL rating, and a clear, easy to understand report is provided to the customer.
Each report contains images and repair details if required. Wheels that GMI Wheels has determined to be unsafe are recommended for disposal.
Improve Safety
Crack testing OTR wheels proactively reduces the instances of catastrophic wheel failures and loss of life.
Reduce Costs
Determines why wheel components or tires may be prematurely wearing, eating into budgets.
Reduce Downtime
Identifies cracked wheel components that may ultimately disable or damage equipment.
FOCUS POINTS
Every crack test focuses on a number of ‘critical failure zones,’ areas that typically express wear, stress and fractures. These zones include:
- Gutter Section (Lock Ring & O-Ring groove)
- Back Section
- Bolt Holes
- Disc Welds
- Butt Welds
A visual inspection is also carried out on components such as:
- Lock Rings
- Side Rings
- Bead Bands/Rings
- Flange Rings
